Michal Kubala and Albert Bodjongo struck as Perak condemned Selangor to their second consecutive defeat in the league
Perak started the game brightly with foreign imports Bodjongo and Michal Kubala having a go at the Selangor defense early on. The Seladang then almost took the lead in the sixth minute when Bodjongo whipped in pin-point cross, only for fellow striker Akmal Rizal to steer wide from four yards out with the goal gaping.Perak however took the lead not long after that. Michal Kubala drilled home a low free-kick into the bottom corner after the Selangor wall jumped to leave a clear gap for Kubala to net his ninth goal of the season.
Selangor who were missing influential midfielder Safiq Rahim, struggled to get a grip on the game as they resorted to pumping long balls which were easily dealt by Perak. The Red Giants however had two good chances to score in the space of five minutes, but they wasted both opportunities. Their first chance arrived when Soley’s surging run and low cross was not met by any player in a red shirt, with the Perak defense stretched. Then anchorman K. Gurusamy hit a half volley just wide after Ramez Dyoub’s free-kick hit the Perak wall.
Perak ended the first half good money for their lead as Selangor trudged into the tunnel to conjure up a better game plan in the second half.
But it was the home side who continued their dominance in the second half, knocking the ball around with confidence around the Red Giants who were just chasing shadows.
Selangor only looked likely to hit the target from set-pieces, however Amri Yahya’s delivery was often poor and Perak easily dealt with his crosses.
Bodjongo came to life in the final ten minutes of the game, first dribbling past two Selangor players before seeing his shot tipped over by Norazlan. But the striker eventually got his goal six minutes from time, hitting a first time volley into the far corner as the Selangor defense once again went into snooze mode.
So with the win Perak leap past Selangor in third place, with Terengganu not in action till Saturday. For the Red Giants, it is food for thought indeed as they put in another limp display to deservedly lose.
