International Friendlies : Malaysia Bank On Safee To Meet Sri Lanka

SAFEE Sali will lead Malaysia's strike force in an 'A' international friendly against Sri Lanka on April 28 where they will be hoping for their first win of the year.

Malaysia must win to avoid further embarrassment following their 1-1 draw with the Philippines, in their only other international, in Manila on Feb 28.

The failure to play matches regularly led to Malaysia falling four spots to 156th in Fifa's latest world rankings.

FA of Malaysia (FAM) general-secretary Datuk Azzuddin Ahmad was criticised for stating that there was no need to panic in regard to the national team's slide.

"We expected it as our national team had played only one international match. We are better than 156," said Azzuddin last week.

National coach K. Rajagobal is taking a different approach and is preparing a team good enough to retain their AFF Cup title in November.

He has tested over 60 players since January in both training and friendly matches as his strategy is to look at as many players as possible before finalising the AFF Cup squad.

The squad:
Shahrom Abdul Kalam (Per),
Azamuddin Mohd Akil (Pah),
Bunyamin Umar, Safiq Rahim, Asraruddin Putra Omar, K. Gurusamy, G. Jeevananthan (all Sel),
Ahmad Shakir Md Ali, Farizal Marlias, Shahurain Abu Samah. S. Kunanlan (all NS),
Rozaimi Abdul Rahman (Sab),
Sani Anuar Kamsani, Ashri Chu Chu (Sar),
Aidil Zafuan Abd Razak, Amiridzwan Taj Tajudin (all ATM),
Helmi Remeli (PKNS),
Amar Rohidan, Azmizi Azmi (Ked),
Nizam Abu Bakar (Felda),
Ahmad Hazwan Bakri, Mahalli Jasuli, Fadhli Mohd Shas, Wan Zack Haikal Wan Nor (all Tigers),
Mohd Faiz Subri (T-Team),
Safee Sali (Pelita Jaya).
