Lethargic Kelantan get a break

KELANTAN will finally get their much-needed break following a disappointing 0-0 draw with Johor FC in a Super League match in Pasir Gudang on Saturday.

The high-flying east coast side were expected to cruise past their relegation-threatened opponents, who were without seven injured first-choice players, but they could not find the net.

Kelantan coach Bojan Hodak fielded his first choice players, except for Lebanese striker Muhammad Ghaddar. But Hodak was left fuming as his players looked lethargic throughout the match.

They remain second in the 14-team league with 38 points from 17 matches, six points behind Singapore's LionsXII, who have played five matches more.

Johor FC, meanwhile, played a well-organised game to frustrate their rivals and the club could have scored on several occasions, while one shot rattled the crossbar.

Kelantan, who have been playing non-stop football since March due to their involvement in the AFC Cup, will break camp for a few days before resuming training for their league match against Kedah on June 14 at home.

"It has been hectic for my players. I hope everyone in the team will be re-energised after they return from their short break as we need to prepare for our final push in the league," said Hodak.

Kelantan are eyeing a sweep of titles this season following their low-key 1-0 win over Premier League club Sime Darby FC in the FA Cup final two weeks ago to complete their collection of titles in the M-League.

Kelantan are also on the brink of making history in their maiden outing in the AFC Cup by reaching the quarter-finals.

The AFC Cup draw will be conducted on June 14.
