Teen close to securing deal with Beira-Mar

NAZMI Faiz Mansor could earn a contract with Beira-Mar after making a huge impact with the Portuguese Primeira Liga side during the three-day trial at the club's base in Aveiro.

Football agent Marco Guimaraes said Nazmi will improve if he earns a contract.

"He has shown the kind of football that is essential for European leagues. He is a true warrior, who is willing to fight hard for his dreams," said Guimaraes in an e-mail on Friday.

"He showed control and professionalism and I believe he has shown a positive side of his football ability."

The 17-year-old midfielder, who is regarded as one of Malaysia's hottest prospects, has a good chance of becoming the first Southeast Asian to land a contract with a Portuguese side.

Nazmi was a huge attraction during his short stay in Portugal as articles on him appeared in eight major newspapers.

Guimaraes told the Record (local newspaper) that Nazmi was motivated throughout the trial.

"We are confident but the final word will come from the club.

"His made an excellent first impression but fell short on the second day, where the training was more intense, but he still managed to play commendably," he added.

Beira-Mar, whp were founded in 1922, had a mixed outing in the just concluded season, finishing 13th in the 16-team competition.

Nazmi, however, will definitely benefit if he earns a contract as he will get a chance to play against the best of Portuguese football.

The club have several notable players who have represented Portugal in international youth competitions.

China's Zhang Chendong, former Real Madrid star Javier Balboa and Hugo Vieira are among their top players.
