SUPER LEAGUE : Two giant screens for banned fans

SARAWAK football fans, banned from watching their team play Sabah in the Super League at the State Stadium today, will have to settle watching the derby on two giant screens at an adjacent car park.

Sarawak were handed the punishment by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to play four home games in an empty stadium for crowd trouble in their last two home matches against Singapore LionsXII and Kelantan.

The cash-strapped FAS is appealing the punishment.

"We don't know if the fans will come in numbers, but we are sure the hardcore supporters will be there,"

FAS president Datuk Sudarsono Osman said in a press conference in Kuching after chairing a meeting between FAS and the police on Thursday on the security arrangements at the match.

The screening of the match at the car park, he said, would be kept under close watch by the police.

Although only FAS officials, security personnel and the media are allowed to attend the match itself, Sudarsono said security would not be taken for granted.

He said there would be sufficient security personnel today as Sarawak could ill afford another crowd incident.
